Yazi Tiger Cutting JIan - A Qing Classic
Yazi is a mythical creature with a dragon head and a wolf body, Yazi is one of the 9 sons of dragon and know for it's fierce and raging temper. Yazi is therefore a popular motif in weapon decoration. The intricate hand guard in this Qing Jian has a classic Yazi decoration seen in many Qing antique. The pommel, however, is a stylized tiger with the slanting triangular eye, snaring teeth and horizontal stripes on the forehead. The intricate bright bass fittings on the scabbard with elegant botanical motif incisions on the surface are typical of the Mid to Late Qing high end private commissioned swords.
This powerful cutting jian features a wider then usual blade and an impressive triangular pointed tip 圭形, a popular choice for late Ming and Qing dynasty jian.
